TuQuyen is a first-generation Vietnamese actor & writer based in New York. Daughter to two Vietnamese refugees, she was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania. Her hometown didn’t have many theaters, but that never hindered her imagination. Instead, she grew up playing soccer & tennis, eating Rita’s Ice, and dragging her parents to the local movie theater every weekend. As a kid, she dreamt of becoming anything and everything—a NASA engineer, a professional soccer player, a country singer, a human rights lawyer, and most importantly, a jedi. It wasn’t until she saw Julie Andrews in The Sound of Music did she realize becoming an actor was the only way to catch all her dreams.
TuQuyen earned her bachelor’s from Boston University, studying Finance, Economics, and Film & TV. She is currently a 3rd-year actor at Columbia University’s MFA Acting Program, training under Ron Van Lieu & James Calleri. She also studied classical theatre at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.
In New York, she has workshopped & originated roles for emerging playwrights including Sophie McIntosh, Esmé Maria Ng, Meg Ledford, and Stephen Bush. She recently had her New York debut at The Connelly Theater last summer in the world premiere of Fish Meat.
